Bangkok is the easiest city in Asia to eat well in without any help at all, which raises a fair question: why book a tour? The honest answer is access and pace. A good guide gets you into the stalls with no English menu, orders the thing that is only made on Tuesdays, and walks you between them in an order that makes sense.
A bad guide takes you to three places on the same block that pay commission. We booked fourteen over two trips. Six were worth the money.

Four hours, nine stops, and the only tour where we genuinely could not have found half the places alone. Ends at a 60-year-old stall doing crab omelette that has a queue by 9pm.

Bangkok has a jungle in the bend of its own river and almost no visitors go. Half a day cycling raised concrete paths through palm forest, ten minutes from the skyline.

The obvious one, done properly. Starts at 7:45am so you are through the Emerald Buddha before the coach groups arrive, which changes the experience entirely.

Starts in a wet market picking galangal and turmeric, ends with five dishes you can actually reproduce at home. The curry paste session alone justifies it.

Most Bangkok dinner cruises are floating buffets with a covers band. This one takes twelve people on a converted rice barge with an actual kitchen.
What we remember: Passing Wat Arun lit up, from the water, with a decent glass of wine.

Three and a half hours, five stops, under thirty euros. Less polished than the Chinatown walk but you cover far more ground and the tuk-tuk legs are half the fun.
